Honeymooning in Hawaii

Hawaii is heaven on earth. There is nothing more relaxing than staying at a resort right on the beach. This was something I had only dreamt about… until the day Daniel told me that we were going to Maui for our honeymoon! I remember jumping up and down and doing a little dance in the kitchen.

After a 6 hour flight, we arrived at the airport as newlyweds and holiday mode instantly kicked in. We rented a Jeep and drove to Kaanapali Ali. The resort looked just as I imagined – the clear, bright blue ocean, the warm sun and palm trees along the seaside. Our fun week of total paradise went by so fast. Here are the top 10 things I highly recommend doing!

1. Indulge in cocktails and tasty food

There is a variety of restaurants around the resort but one that stood out was Monkeypod in Whalers Village. They serve an assortment of creative cocktails. Daniel had their famous Monkeypod Mai Tai and my favorite was the Lava Flow. Their fish tacos and garlic fries are to die for!

2. Body boarding and swimming in the ocean

We spent a lot of time in the sea, the water was crystal clear! Our hotel had two body boards and we had so much fun trying to ride the waves. Swimming in the warm, salty ocean was my favorite part!

3. Take a stroll through Whalers Village

Whalers Village was a 15 minute walk from our hotel. It’s an outdoor mall, filled with restaurants, boutiques and fun things to do. We had to try the escape room and made it out with 4 minutes to spare! At night we would take a stroll along the beach, the stars were out, we could hear the waves crashing and sand in our toes. Such a divine setting.

4. Stay at a Kaanapali Ali Resort

The view from our hotel room was incredible. We could see the sea on one side and the mountains on the other. We spent a lot of time out on the balcony. It felt so tranquil and a few birds would fly in and visit while we ate our lunch.

5. Capture your honeymoon with a romantic beach photoshoot

We had a professional photoshoot on the beach at sunset, and to be honest this was a quite a splurge. But the photos are stunning and it’s such a great way to remember just how perfect this week was for us ❤

6. Attend a luau

A luau is a Hawaiian party/feast. We were welcomed with a fresh flower lei and a delicious buffet dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed the night while watching the Hawaiian dancers and entertainers.

7. Visit Lahaina

We drove to Lahaina, a nearby seaside town, there was a Halloween parade and everyone was dressed up! We walked the streets and had fun looking at the different costumes. We stopped in at the Pearl factory. I picked out an oyster and it had a gorgeous pearl inside!

8. Couples Massage

The Spa at Black Rock had the best couples massage! A peaceful hour of pure relaxation. 10/10!

9. Haleakalā National Park

We drove 2 and half hours to Haleakalā National Park. Unfortunately it was too foggy to see much of the volcano, but I imagine would be incredible to see on a clear day! The best times to hike are at sunrise or sunset. While leaving, we spotted a Nene (Hawaiian goose) crossing the road and her cute goslings trailing behind her.

10. Snorkelling

I was determined to see a sea turtle before we left and on the last day, we went snorkeling for a few hours. We saw stunning fish and a majestic eel, it wasn’t until we were walking out the water that Daniel spotted two huge sea turtles! Swimming with them was definitely the best way to end our vacation.

Maui was an absolute dream, I often think back on our honeymoon and smile. I can’t wait to go back!
